Food Regina is a network of local organizations working together towards improved community food security for Regina. The following organizations are part of the Food Regina network.
The Community Research Unit (CRU), based in the Faculty of Arts, connects community groups and University of Regina faculty and students through research, service-learning, and other collaborative activities. These partnerships seek answers to community questions to foster positive action and change. Local & Fresh is an online retailer and distributor of over 1300 local food products. The goal of Local & Fresh is to grow the size and sustainability of the local food network by making it easier for producers, consumers, restaurants and institutions to choose local food options.REACH serves as an umbrella association for a wide range of healthy food programs. Our programs are delivered through over 170 organizations and schools to ensure that all people in the community have access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food.The Regina Farmers’ Market Co-operative (RFM) works with our members to provide the highest quality, local Saskatchewan products direct to consumers. RFM products are made, baked, grown, or designed in Saskatchewan by over 100 local vendors. Our vision is to be the destination for the highest quality local products. The Regina Food Bank serves those most vulnerable in our community by providing programs and service directly and through partnerships in the areas of food provision, essential skills development and connections to the community supports and opportunities.The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services that enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is the largest health care delivery system in southern Saskatchewan, and one of the most integrated health delivery agencies in the country.
SaskOrganics is a membership based organic industry association that represents all certified organic farmers and processors in Saskatchewan. Our vision, cultivating a healthier world for the benefit of all through organic food and agriculture. Our services to members include export market development, education & research and promoting the benefits of organically grown food.The Backyard is a farm-to-table pop-up restaurant showcasing the best organic and seasonal ingredients Saskatchewan has to offer. We work out of community halls and churches in order to some light on under utilized kitchens and transform them into a restaurant, offering a different menu each event. Our menu is ingredient and vegetable driven, highlighting the season and always striving for the most important things to us: flavor & sustainability. The Backyard is supported by a chef’s garden, a handful of small, organic producers and a solid, passionate team.The City of Regina is an ex officio member of Food Regina. The Mission of the City of Regina is to contribute to its citizens’ quality of life by providing services and infrastructure at a level and of a quality that is sustainable. In terms of food policy, the City collaborates and seek partnerships to increase access to healthy, diverse and affordable food within neighbourhoods through building capacity in the food sector, supporting local-food and food-related business and promoting community gardens and year round space for farmers markets within the city.
